Dr. Daniel Barron, Board Chair
Daniel Barron was born in Bakersville, NC in a house about 50 yards from the public library. He graduated from Appalachian State University, was a high school librarian in Gastonia, NC, worked reference at the public library nights and weekends, and filled in at branches during the summers.
He received his MLIS, AMLIS, and Ph.D. from Florida State University. He retired as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus from the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina after 30 years as a faculty member and Director of the School.
Daniel accepted an Interim Directorship three weeks after his retirement from USC with the AMY Regional Library. He fell in love with the job and the people of the three counties, and applied for the position and was appointed Director in January 2007.
Now repurposed in his second career, he plans to spend the remainder of his useful life serving the people of the beautiful Toe River Valley and the library profession in North Carolina. He has a daughter Amy who is a GIS professional in the Charlotte area, and lives with his wife Brette, who is an artist, and his two step children, Maddie and Bobby, in a house overlooking his birthplace.
