Ronald McKinney, Board Vice-Chair
Ronald McKinney is a retired educator and current Christmas Tree Farm Operator. He held teaching and counseling positions in McDowell, Mitchell and Burke counties. As one of the first employees of Mayland Community College, he was a member of the administrative team that established its curricula and programs and constructed a permanent campus. Mr. McKinney has received several citations for civic activities.
He currently serves on an advisory board to Western Highlands Network and is a member of the Governor’s Task Force for Healthy Carolinians, Mitchell County Foundation Board, board member of Mitchell Community Health Partnership and member of Bakersville Improvement Group. He is an active member of Bakersville Baptist Church where he has served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Board of Trustees member and Sunday School Superintendent.
Mr. McKinney received a BS in Social Studies, MA in Counseling and MA in School Administration from Appalachian State University. He completed the doctoral course work in Higher Education Administration at NC State University.
