Restoration / Renovation Efforts

Accomplishments in 2007

March

April

June

  • Commissioned ALTA survey

July

  • Recommendations presented and were accepted by the County Commissioners
  • The Foundation became incorporated by the state of North Carolina
  • Commissioned “green” engineering study (to benchmark and seek recommendations for environmentally responsible restoration and renovation)

August

  • Application for 501 (c) (3) status from the IRS
  • Centennial Celebration

October

  • Building leased to Foundation for 99 years
  • Initial HVAC assessment completed.

November

  • Commissioned asbestos and lead paint assessment.
  • Commissioned electrical assessment.

December

  • Commissioned preliminary material removal assessment.

Projected Activities in 2008

January

  • Complete preliminary material removal

February

February/March

  • Hire Manager/Liaison

April

  • Develop policy and procedures guidelines for building space allocation and use.

May-ongoing

  • Begin developing collaborative programming and plans for future programming and time lines with the organizations involved in the project

March

  • Send out requests for construction bids

May

  • Award construction contracts

Summer/Fall

  • Begin construction

  • Create programming and timeline for Mayland Classes
  • Create programming and timeline for literacy efforts with Mitchell County Public Library
  • Create programming and timeline for Archives and History with Mitchell County Historic Society
  • Create programming and timeline for Arts and Crafts displays with Toe River Arts Council
